He felt that his whole life was some kind of dream and he sometimes wondered whose it was and whether they were enjoying it.

Could I finally be first!?!
Not if I don't hurry in a comment here. I love this quote. I do indeed think this sometimes and not a dream as in dreamy but in that odd, grainy surreal quality that dreams have. Yes that is life.
I too love the quote...easy sometimes to feel as though we're living at someone else's whim or sensibility. Perhaps it's simply the ongoing tussle between our conscious and unconscious minds that makes things seem out of context or foreign...maybe I should lie down and take two advil.
G: Demi Moore was in a movie called Passion of the Mind a few years ago, that dealt in an interesting way with this concept. interesting, that is, if having one lover in the "awake" state and another one when "asleep", and having one get jealous of the other and try to kill you is interesting. come to think of it, it wasn't that good.
but this concept is nice, and i'm with you, some days it's difficult to tell if what we're experiencing is real, or just a dream. xox
Honey: all of my *greatest* dreams came true the day you walked into my life. after i grabbed onto your coat as you tried to pass by me, that is, and then when you sat down and talked to me, and let me convince you that taking me out to dinner was a good idea. THEN my dreams came true. and they still are. imagine that. xoxox
Al: believe it or not, i came thisclose to using that poem today, because i love it. if you look, you'll notice the first letter of each line spells out the name ALICE PLEASANCE LIDDELL, which is the name of the little girl he was obsessed with -- and for whom he wrote the Alice stories. but the poem is beautiful and one of my absolute favorites. thank you! xox
Love DA. He always had the most interesting way of seeing the world. My take has been that we are all dreaming and are part of each other. If that makes any sense at all.
I love that picture of Bobo... he looks pretty carefree. :) I love the fur flying in the wind pictures, my Trudie loves to run with her ears flapping in the wind. Ahhhh such wonderful thoughts!
Overall I think life's been a pretty damn good dream - there has been challenges but all the places we go!
As for the picture, it is beautiful and so appropriate for the quote!
You know, the quote takes me back to the concept of attachment and illusion... our strong attachment to this reality that Buddhists would argue is an illusion, the fact that this thing called "me" is the biggest illusion of them all... even pondering all this is giving me a headache...
... ok back to the drawing board... let's see if we can make this sucker have a great ending! FO SHO!
Besos to you my dear friend and here's hoping that you have a great weekend!
Oh, life could be a dream (sh-boom)
If I could take you up in paradise up above (sh-boom)
If you would tell me I'm the only one that you love
Life could be a dream sweetheart
(Hello hello again, sh-boom and hopin' we'll meet again)
Oh, life could be a dream (sh-boom)
If only all my precious plans would come true (sh-boom)
If you would let me spend my whole life lovin' you
Life could be a dream sweetheart
Now every time I look at you
Something is on my mind (dat-dat-dat-dat-dat-duh)
If you do what I want you to
Baby, we'd be so fine
Oh, life could be a dream (sh-boom)
If I could take you up in paradise up above (sh-boom)
If you would tell me I'm the only one that you love
Life could be a dream sweetheart
Sh-boom sh-boom Ya-da-da Da-da-da Da-da-da Da
Sh-boom sh-boom Ya-da-da Da-da-da Da-da-da Da
Sh-boom sh-boom Ya-da-da Da-da-da Da-da-da Da, sh-boom
Sh-boom sh-boom Ya-da-da Da-da-da Da-da-da Da
Sh-boom sh-boom Ya-da-da Da-da-da Da-da-da Da
Sh-boom sh-boom Ya-da-da Da-da-da Da-da-da Da, sh-boom
Every time I look at you
Somethin' is on my mind
If you do what I want you to
Baby, we'd be so fine
Life could be a dream
If I could take you up in paradise up above
If you would tell me I'm the only one that you love
Life could be a dream sweetheart
(Hello hello again, sh-boom and hopin' we'll meet again) boom sh-boom
Hey nonny ding dong, alang alang alang (sh-boom)
Ba-doh, ba-doo ba-doodle-ay
Life could be a dream
Life could be a dream, sweetheart
Life could be a dream
If only all my precious plans would come true
If you would let me spend my whole life loving you
Life could be a dream sweetheart
I just reread what I wrote... I want to change the "great ending" to "a continuously fab journey"... which it is, even in the down moments... goes back to the illusion... see?
Brian: it makes perfect sense, and i think you're absolutely right! xox
Ann: don't we all feel that way at one time or another? i guess it's in those moments we're supposed to stop and look at the things that make us *happy*, and remember we can't have the ups without a few of the downs. xox
Pia: me too! honestly, on many days, i'm not convinced that's not true! xox
CJ: now why doesn't that surprise me? (actually, that's exactly how i feel most of the time!) that's Max, by the way, but don't worry, i won't tell BoBo you got them mixed up! xox
Miz B: don Miguel Ruiz writes of our lives in the same terms, and i think it's true. we do live in a dream, of sorts. an illusion created by those before us and around us, and one we accept without question until we know better. you are oh-so-wise to question it all, my dear friend, and understand that the power to take the journey in any direction you wish lies within YOU. impressive, no? much love and many thanks for your beautiful and kind words... and alway just for being the wonderful friend that you are! xox
Al: wise ass. altho'... if memory serves, those Crew Cuts were a crafty bunch of lads, so maybe there *is* something there. (oh, and thanks for that earworm, it's just what i need running through my mind right now... sh-boom sh-boom) xox
TLP: i'm lucky if i can even *remember* my dreams. what's that say about me? xox
Spirit: beautiful Spirit, i'm guessing your life *is* like a dream, and a well-deserved one, at that! xox
Miz B: somehow i did. and yes... "Life is a journey, NOT a destination." that's something we all need to remember, right? much love & many besos to you, too, beautiful BoheMia! xox
I wonder if I'm enjoying my dream, or maybe I'm enjoying Brody's, or Bailey's, or Baxter's. Or maybe their enjoying mine. Or maybe we're not enjoying anything at all. We're just waiting at the bus stop for our ride to come along. Maybe we're too weird for words and need to take a nap now.
Mrs. Weirsdo: most days, Max hopes he doesn't wake up, either. (he's old and very nervous these days) xox
Terry: aw... thanks. and Happy Birthday, girlfriend! you wear your years well. xox
Nessa: not sure that's a bad thing. okay, sometime's it's bad, but in my dreams i can eat all the chocolate i want and never gain weight. so, there's that... xox
Dan: coming from an "almost" monk, i consider that mighty high praise, my friend! xox
Schnoodlepooh: TOO weird? there's no such thing. still... nothin' wrong with a good nap for perspective! (so? is that Baxter in that magazine picture, or not???) xox

Lewis Carroll wrote "Life is but a Dream" in, of all things,"The Hunting of the Snark".
A boat, beneath a sunny sky
Lingering onward dreamily
In an evening of July--
Children three that nestle near,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Pleased a simple tale to hear--
Long has paled that sunny sky;
Echoes fade and memories die;
Autumn frosts have slain July.
Still she haunts me, phantomwise,
Alice moving under skies
Never seen by waking eyes.
Children yet, the tale to hear,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Lovingly shall nestle near.
In a Wonderland they lie,
Dreaming as the days go by,
Dreaming as the summers die;
Ever drifting down the stream--
Lingering in the golden gleam--
Life, what is it but a dream?
Pretty, huh? Personally, I don't get it.

Did a little more research on the subject, Neva, and found this old doo-wop song by the crew-cuts:
Hey nonny ding dong, alang alang alang
Boom ba-doh, ba-doo ba-doodle-ay
Oh, life could be a dream (sh-boom)
If I could take you up in paradise up above (sh-boom)
If you would tell me I'm the only one that you love
Life could be a dream sweetheart
(Hello hello again, sh-boom and hopin' we'll meet again)
Oh, life could be a dream (sh-boom)
If only all my precious plans would come true (sh-boom)
If you would let me spend my whole life lovin' you
Life could be a dream sweetheart
Now every time I look at you
Something is on my mind (dat-dat-dat-dat-dat-duh)
If you do what I want you to
Baby, we'd be so fine
Oh, life could be a dream (sh-boom)
If I could take you up in paradise up above (sh-boom)
If you would tell me I'm the only one that you love
Life could be a dream sweetheart
Sh-boom sh-boom Ya-da-da Da-da-da Da-da-da Da
Sh-boom sh-boom Ya-da-da Da-da-da Da-da-da Da
Sh-boom sh-boom Ya-da-da Da-da-da Da-da-da Da, sh-boom
Sh-boom sh-boom Ya-da-da Da-da-da Da-da-da Da
Sh-boom sh-boom Ya-da-da Da-da-da Da-da-da Da
Sh-boom sh-boom Ya-da-da Da-da-da Da-da-da Da, sh-boom

Life could be a dream, sweetheart
Life could be a dream

Life could be a dream sweetheart
